The ferries that rescued the Hudson plane passengers

Watch the movie "Sully" carefully. You'll see the names of the first three New York Waterway ferries to come to the rescue when Captain Sully had to land the US Airways jet in the Hudson River in 2009.

In fact, the captain of the first ferry played himself in the movie.

They are in order of arrival:
  1. Thomas Jefferson
  2. Moira Smith
  3. Yogi Berra

Here's an article with the complete list. Below is an excerpt.
  • From the Thomas Jefferson, Capt. Vincent Lombardi and Deckhands Hector Rabanes and Wilfredo Rivera. They rescued 56 people from the plane.
  • From the Yogi Berra, Captain Vince Lucante and Captain Michael Starr. They rescued 24 including an infant and another child.
  • From the Athena, Captain Carl Lucas and Deckhands Luis Salerno and Danny Convery. They rescued 19 including the pilot.
  • From the Moira Smith, Captain Manny Liba and Deckhands Natale Binetti and Giulio Farnese. They rescued 14.
  • From the Thomas Kean, Captain Brittanny Catanzaro and Deckhands Osman Berete and Cosmo Mezzina. They rescued 26.
  • From the Admiral Richard Bennis, Captain John Winiarski and Deckhand Frank Illuzi. They rescued three.
  • From the George Washington, Captain Mohamed Gouda and Deckhands Jose Torres, Pepe Carumba and Gregorio Pages. They rescued one.

When your router's firmware is crappy and you have no control

So last fall our apartment got all our routers replaced. The new routers allegedly support 2.4Ghz, but most of the time there are outages. In addition, we were told by the ISP not to reboot our own routers.

Thus I could not control my Deebot robo-vacuum with its phone app. The remote that comes with the vacuum has reduced function, and I really need the phone app to do things like scheduling.

So we bought a router and hooked it by ethernet to the first router. It worked. This second router was cheap because we were able to get one that only supported 2.4GHz, as we did not need it for 5Ghz. We paid only $20 for it.

When a channel disappears every time you turn off the tv and you have to rescan again

Channel 4 disappears after I turn off the tv, and I have to do another scan to get it back. This required a double rescan.

There are five simple steps to a double rescan for a converter box or digital TV, which are as follows:
1. Disconnect the antenna from the box or digital TV.
2. Rescan the box or digital TV without the antenna connected. As with any scan follow the on-screen instructions or owner’s manual for your device.
3. Unplug the box or digital TV from the electrical outlet for at least one minute.
4. Reconnect the antenna to the box or digital TV and plug the unit into the electrical outlet.
5. Rescan the box or digital TV one more time.

Amazon Echo says: Your Plex server appears to be online but remote access is not available.

I found a workaround that requires use of the touch screen but once it's set up, it's easy.

  1. Ask Alexa to open Firefox
  2. Use the touch screen to open the Plex desktop app in Firefox
  3. Use the touch screen to pin it as a Firefox tab
  4. From now on when you ask Alexa to open Firefox, you'll see your tabs, including Plex
  5. Once inside Plex, you can use the touch screen to select movies

Original Post:

I was excited to learn that my Amazon Echo has a Plex skill. I enabled it, and then asked Alexa to run Plex. Unfortunately, Alexa said that I couldn't do it because Plex is not available outside my network:

Alexa said: Your Plex server appears to be online but remote access is not available.

When I looked in my Plex dashboard, I found this message:

Not available outside your network

Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network.

So I tried going into my Plex server which is running on an old Windows 10 computer, and set up static IP. This caused the dashboard to show this message:

Fully accessible outside your network

You can access this server from signed-in Plex apps or in a browser at
But it still doesn't work.

I still think I need to do something with the router but I don't know what.

Solved! Couldn't get into password reprompt in Lastpass

I could get into Lastpass, but not the sites with password reprompt. Only failed on my windows computer, not Mike's chromebook.

I rebooted.
