Epson Workforce 840 Scanner software crashing after April 2018 Creators Update

Some folks say that running in compatability mode fixes the problem. Others say it doesn't. Here's the procedure I tried, but it still didn't work.

  1. Find the Epson scan executable in your folder structure
  2. Right click on Epson Scan and choose Properties
  3. Choose Compatibility
  4. Click Change settings for all users
  5. Tick run on compatibility mode
  6. Choose Windows XP SP3
Others have found that running scan in admininstrative mode works for them, but it didn't work for me.

I've learned that both Epson and Windows are aware of the problem, and that a patch is on the horizon.

In the meantime, I can get the scan software to behave by never clicking outside the scan window. It kinda takes away the multitasking, but that's Windows for ya: a somewhat multitasking operating system.
