Two and a half hour chat with Google only to learn they don't support what I was asking about

Bernard
1:01 PM
Thanks for contacting us! My name is Bernard. I'm happy to answer any questions you have about Google Home.
Bernard
1:01 PM
Hi Linda!
Bernard
1:02 PM
How can I help you in listening to music on Google Home?
Linda Moran
1:02 PM
I just got a google home. I want to ask it to play specific songs from a specific playlist. How do I do that
Bernard
1:02 PM
Let's see how I can help!
Linda Moran
1:03 PM
Oh I forgot to mention I meant on youtube
Bernard
1:03 PM
Thanks! Do you have the regular Google Home device or the Google Home Mini device?
Linda Moran
1:03 PM
regular
Linda Moran
1:04 PM
I want it to play on my tv using chromecast
Bernard
1:04 PM
Gotcha!
Bernard
1:06 PM
Sorry for the delay. Are you with the regular Google Home device and the Chromecast device right now?
Linda Moran
1:06 PM
yes
Linda Moran
1:11 PM
Was it something I said?
Bernard
1:16 PM
No! I'm sorry, Linda. That took longer than expected.
Linda Moran
1:16 PM
lol
Bernard
1:17 PM
I want to make sure we’re on the same page. What's your phone number so we can continue troubleshooting this over the phone?
Linda Moran
1:17 PM
What is there to troubleshoot? I just want to know how to play songs in my playlist in youtube
Linda Moran
1:21 PM
Just now while waiting for you, I tried asking "open my playlists on youtube" and it replied "it doesn't look like you have any playlists on youtube." But I do have playlists on youtube.
Bernard
1:23 PM
I should've excluded the word troubleshoot. Thanks for letting me know!
Bernard
1:23 PM
It's okay. We can continue here.
Linda Moran
1:24 PM
So now that I've gotten this far (at least I figured out how to ask Google my question) what do I have to do to get it to recognize my playlists?
Bernard
1:37 PM
Thanks for waiting! By YouTube, are you referring to YouTube Music?
Linda Moran
1:40 PM
You're asking me this 36 minutes into the chat. I have youtube premium. I want to throw it to my tv so I can hear the music from my tv and see the video that's with it. But I'm trying to simplify this for you. First just tell me how to ask Google Home to play something from my playlist.
Bernard
1:47 PM
Thanks for letting me know! The playlists you have are music videos, is that correct?
Linda Moran
1:47 PM
They are music videos
Bernard
1:52 PM
Gotcha! Are you already able to manually cast to your Chromecast device?
Linda Moran
1:52 PM
I don't know what you mean by "manually."
Linda Moran
1:53 PM
I've been using my chromecast device from my laptop.
Bernard
1:57 PM
Good! By that, you're able to cast from your laptop to your Chromecast device connected to your TV, is that correct?
Linda Moran
1:58 PM
Yes.
Bernard
2:13 PM
Sorry about the long wait.
Bernard
2:13 PM
I'll be right back. I'm going to look into this for you.
Bernard
2:30 PM
Thanks so much for waiting. Have you tried playing a specific video from YouTube to the Chromecast if it worked via voice commands?
Linda Moran
2:31 PM
yes that works
Linda Moran
2:31 PM
I just want the version that's in my playlist
Linda Moran
2:31 PM
or at very least the one that's in my history
Linda Moran
2:32 PM
I didn't come here to troubleshoot. Everything works already. I just want to know what the command is
Bernard
2:38 PM
Gotcha! If you try to play a specific music video that's in your playlist to the Chromecast device, does it work as well?
Linda Moran
2:39 PM
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Linda Moran
2:39 PM
It all works already. I just want to know what the command is to Google Home!
Bernard
2:53 PM
Since you were able to play a music video from your playlist to the Chromecast, what voice command did you use?
Linda Moran
2:56 PM
"Hey Google, play 'If Ye Love Me' Tallis on chromecast
Linda Moran
2:57 PM
If I leave off the arranger's name, it plays some other version
Linda Moran
2:57 PM
So it's not looking at my account at all. It's just look for "If Ye Love Me"
Linda Moran
2:59 PM
My playlist is filled with specific songs by specific artists and arrangers. Why can't you just tell me how to get Google Home to play the specific songs I want that are in my own history and my own playlists? And no, I can't always drum up the name of the composer or artist. That's why I have a playlist to begin with
Linda Moran
3:00 PM
So far we've been in this chat for two hours and you still haven't given me a single command to try
Linda Moran
3:07 PM
I just found something on a google support page. Can you tell me if this is still true? " Important: You're not able to play personal playlist from YouTube Music via Google Home at this time."
Bernard
3:12 PM
I'm sorry, Linda. I was trying to figure out what you wanted to happen.
Linda Moran
3:13 PM
Do you have it figured out?
Linda Moran
3:13 PM
IT's simple. I want to ask Google Home to play songs that are in my playlist
Linda Moran
3:16 PM
And I'm waiting for an answer to the question I asked above about youtube playlist support on Google Home.DoesGoogle home support playlists or not?
Bernard
3:31 PM
Thanks for being patient with me! The info about YouTube Music is still true. I double-checked.
Linda Moran
3:36 PM
Okay, send this comment up the chain please -- it took exactly 2 and a half hours to find out that what I'm trying to do is not supported. That is not acceptable. Also, my household is entirely an Amazon ecosystem. But I needed a Google Home for my youtube choir practice because there's no youtube support on my Amazon devices due to the ongoing feud between the two companies. My choir music is only on youtube. Now I see I wasted my money on a Google Home because I need the specific music that's in my playlist which changes from one week to the next, as our church choir sings new music every single week. Also of course, I wasted two and a half hours of work time. Please don't thank me for being patient. It's presumptuous!
Bernard
3:39 PM
Got it. I'm very sorry that you've had to go to so much effort.
Linda Moran
3:39 PM
I'm sure you are. But does your company care?
Bernard
3:40 PM
Yes!
Linda Moran
3:44 PM
That's good to hear. Then I'm sure they'll want to publicize this drawback better on their marketing materials...unless of course the holdup is because they're about to work something out with Amazon. I would be so happy to ask Alexa to play songs from my Youtube playlist.
Linda Moran
3:46 PM
I would keep my Youtube Premium account if necessary. Doesn't Google see they're shooting themselves in the foot by not working with Amazon?
Linda Moran
3:47 PM
Well, I've had my say. Have a nice remainder of your day.
Bernard
3:53 PM
By the way, what's your default music service for the regular Google Home device?
Linda Moran
3:53 PM
Youtube. That's all I bought it for
Bernard
3:57 PM
Got it.
Linda Moran
3:57 PM
Seems like there's a dif between youtube music and plain old youtube? I didn't even know that.
Linda Moran
3:57 PM
I need the video part of the music so I can see the director
Linda Moran
3:59 PM
Hmmm...when I type in youtube music, it just goes to my normal youtube account
Linda Moran
3:59 PM
Is there at least a way to tell Google Home that I only want it to search for the requested song inside my account?
Bernard
4:05 PM
Let's see. With regards to playing the music videos, I suggest for you to do mobile app casting or webcasting for now.
Linda Moran
4:08 PM
Yes that's what I was already doing but voice is way easier so that's why I bought the Google Home. It sure looks to me like you guys are trying to figure out what your users are really asking for when they ask for playlist support. I hope the time I spent today will be useful. I guess you didn't know us church-types use it for choir practice!
Bernard
4:18 PM
Just to clarify, you would like to be able to make voice commands to the regular Google Home to play music videos from your personal playlists from YouTube to the Chromecast connected to your TV, is that correct?
Linda Moran
4:19 PM
yes

Bernard
4:21 PM
Thanks! I'll send this as a feature request to our product team.
Linda Moran
4:22 PM
All they have to do is supply Youtube playlist support. The rest is already working
Linda Moran
4:23 PM
I just thought you'd be able to walk me through all of it.
Linda Moran
4:23 PM
So just tell them I want either youtube playlist support or at least the ability to tell Google Home to only search in my account history (not outside my account)

Linda Moran
4:24 PM
...for the song I'm looking for.
